Wetter than wet

Friday, June 27, 2008: Bob’s Bay to Cougar Bay off Tolmie Channel

Wet Marilyn going below to make tea

Fogged in. RAIN. Visibility questionable. Up Finlayson Channel, past the small outpost of Klemtu to Tolmie Channel. The rain is as fine as a mist, but dense. It drenches you in minutes. Foul weather gear prevents a drenching only to the bones. It has been coming down ALL DAY.

Through the narrow channel of Tolmie. Boat Bluff emerges. Red roofs and white buildings. Sarah Island. In the fog. In the mist and rain. In the cold. Russ stands watch as he intermittently bobs up and down to look at the charts. Mists, grey sky, dark tree-covered islands, grey waters, a few lone boats: fishing and sailboats emerging like silent ghosts. I’m wet and cold. Tonight I look forward to dropping the hook and sleeping warm and tight in Cougar Bay.
